Houston, TX asked in Criminal Law, Employment Law, Personal Injury and Workers' Compensation for Texas

Q: How do I find out if my former employer has workman's compensation?

I was injured by another employee while on the job and I have been trying to get help from the Crime Victims Compensation so I can get my bills paid for the injuries, but my former employer told me that they don't have workman's compensation St the time of the incident. Now they are saying that I received payment for my incident and that nor true. I can't get help without them writing a letter saying that I didn't receive any help. Now they're avoiding calls and I can't get help. What should I do?

A: The situation does not look good for you based on the facts presented. You should consult with a worker's compensation attorney and / or employment attorney. In most instances, an employer will disclose its worker's compensation coverage. It may well be that there is no coverage in place. Most personal injury and worker's compensation provide a free consultation. As for employment law attorneys, some charge a consultation fee. Good luck.
