Q: May be being bullied at work?

I work as a custodian at a high school and i have seen my boss the building and grounds empty multiple boilers with poison in them down the drains to the leach field and one outside that ran down and collected over the schools water well. They also did not do the water lead testing like they were suppose to correctly to help the results in there favor. They also lost 500 gal. of fuel in a spill down the school drains to the leach field because the boss would not fix the small fuel leak and it finally broke one day. I also reported that there is no lights after work on outside to see to my truck or down the stairs in the parking lot sense they are turned off at a set time I went to multiple board members and was told if i reported any of this they would find a way to fire me me. With light light situation i was told by a board member to bring a flashlight. What kind of lawyer do i go to?

A: If employers were allowed to retaliate against employees for reporting violations then no one would report them.

Of course, if bad things happened, the employers usually say employees were not doing their jobs.

Employees usually argue they got demoted or fired because they filed formal government complaints.

Be careful about using whistleblower to protect yourself if you are already on bad terms with your employer. For example if you have recently been disciplined or are already on some type of warning or performance improvement plan seek legal counsel before doing anything. Hopefully you have not threatened your employer with reporting them. If you have brought a matter to your employer's attention and they did nothing, threatening them with a report, and then not following through is usually a bad idea. You give them time to gather other evidence against you.

If you have not been reviewed highly or have not received raises, promotions then you DEFINITELY need to consult with either your union or with an employment lawyer to figure out why. And then decide how to proceed. None of us will suggest you jump to conclusions on your own. Good luck.

A: I have to agree with the two previous answers that you should be reporting these issues outside of your job. It sounds like your employer will get into major trouble. I suggest you speak to an attorney to understand all of your options and discuss any questions you have in a less public forum.
