Visalia, CA asked in Personal Injury, Collections, Libel & Slander and Small Claims for California

Q: How can I sue an individual for around 14,000?

I was in an abusive relationship he falsely had me locked in jail causing me to loose time off work, 8,000 in legal fees and a tarnish on my reputation. He than proceeded to steal anything of value out of my house that he had just got on the lease with me for Approximately 3,000 worth of stuff. He also cost me the down payment and first month rent in the house which I was not allowed to enter. I have documentation of all items how can I sue him he owns property and has a good job I am now struggling to make ends meet and am out my entire life savings. Is there anything I can do to get some of my money back? I was not charged with anything he is an ex felon who spent 16 years in jail.

A: You can sue for up to $10k in Small Claims court. Not sure how you would collect if successful.

A: you will not get a lawyer to take the case on a contingency in all likelihood..........

if you file in superior court it could take you 2-5 years to get a court date.

if you came in and pd $750 or a consultation i would suggest waiveing $4kand suing for $10k in smaill claims court.
