Tracy, CA asked in Employment Law and Civil Rights for California

Q: What can my wife do about being stalked at her workplace?

She has an anonoymous stalker at work leaving unwantd gifts and notes on her car. She has reported the issue on five different occasions and has yet to be resolved. She is now scared to go into work and has missed days of work due to her shift ending at night, and she does not want to walk alone in the dark.

A: I have a question for you. Why isn't your wife asking the questions? It is her issue alone, and she should be the person making this inquiry. As a practicing attorney, I was always suspicious when a spouse came to my office about a case involving the other spouse. You only know what your spouse is telling you, and are assuming everything she tells you is true. What if that isn't the case? Won't you then be the one who is embarrassed? My best advice to you is to be supportive of her, encourage her to go to her HR department for help, and to seek her own legal counsel if that doesn't help.
