Edwards, NY asked in Employment Discrimination and Employment Law for New York

Q: What does being red flagged by employer mean from being fired from a high school as a custodian.

They said i can resign from employment or be red flagged from getting another state job. Where can someone find if they have been red flagged.

A: Your best defense is great performance evaluations. Keep copies of all your performance evaluations. They look for great performers and there is a shortage of them.

If you were disciplined related to performance that would not be good. They can share that info with other government agencies and probably will. That's red flagging.

FOIL other custodians' personnel files. They are public records. You will see who you would not hire and who you would red flag if you were the government.

If you are flagged your next job will probably be in the private sector. You need to negotiate one or two excellent recommendation letters now before you leave!
