Q: Will I be criminally charged?? What to do? Please help!!
I work as a cashier in a pharmacy, last week I had LP investigating me for theft and lost prevention.
Long story short, I used my non discount card for customers which accumulated coupons that I used for personal purchases. The amount estimated was $100. In my statement, I admitted the action and got terminated. Yesterday I received two letters from the company’s attorney. One of them was a civil restitution of the $100, while the other is a civil settlement agreement resulting from the “larceny” that demands me paying $500 as a penalty of the action.
If I choose to pay the money, would that prevent any further criminal charges? Would a civil lawyer be able to add a term to the settlement not to peruse any further charges? And would that affect my background check when applying for other jobs
Please help!!!
A:
An employment lawyer would carefully review your employee handbook before advising you. This could be completed remotely. You would call and discuss more details, you and the lawyer would agree to a flat fee for such review and legal advice regarding options, and everything including payment and document submission could be done electronically. Many employment law matters can be handled remotely.
You should definitely consider the above to make the best choice of how to resolve this. Make sure the lawyer you choose either limits their practice to employment law or it's the bulk of their practice and good luck.
