A: You need a full consultation with a consumer protection attorney that specifically deals with debt collections. Or a bankruptcy attorney. Call one asap.

A: Dear Salvador, These things often take a person by surprise. You should see a bankruptcy lawyer immediately for advice. Most BK lawyers do not charge for advice and will give you a free consultation. Do you need to file for bankruptcy? Nobody knows. That's why you are being advised to see a bankruptcy lawyer - to get basic advice on your legal rights.

A: Hello Salvador,

Filing for chapter 7 bankruptcy and notification of that to the Sheriff will stop any garnishments. Often that is the best course of action.
