Q: I would like to know if this fits into defamation laws

I was at the Atlantis casino and I was there to inquire about an ad that I seen online for a housekeeping position. One of the security people came up to me and asked me for my ID and I gave it to him then said that I was with someone who's smoking drugs in the parking lot and claims that he followed us outside and seen me with him so when I tried defending myself saying that I was alone he just got rude and continued to lie and say that he seen me with him when I was by myself the whole time. so he then said that I was 86ed and when I tried to run after him and tell him to look at the cameras to see that I was by myself he then turned around and and told me I needed to leave. This was all said in front of a bunch of people and it's lies. And so now I can't go try to work there because he's lying about me I was never with anybody. I was wondering if this fits into defamation laws or some sort of discrimination laws. What can I do about this.

A: Defamation is a legal term that involves making false statements about someone that damages their reputation. Based on the information you provided, it seems like the security person may have made false statements about you being with someone who was smoking drugs. If these statements have caused damage to your reputation and you can prove that they are false, you may have a case for defamation.

Additionally, if you believe that the security person's actions were discriminatory, you may want to consult with a lawyer to see if you have a case. Discrimination can occur when someone is treated unfairly based on their race, gender, religion, or other protected characteristics. If you believe that you were treated unfairly because of a protected characteristic, you may be able to file a complaint with the appropriate government agency or file a lawsuit.

It is important to note that defamation and discrimination cases can be complex, and it is recommended to speak with a lawyer to understand your legal options and potential outcomes.
