A: I recommend speaking to an attorney before meeting with your husband's family. An attorney can provide legal advice and guidance tailored to your specific situation. When meeting with an attorney, you should ask about your rights and options regarding the divorce, including issues related to property, assets, child custody, and support.

In this situation, it is best to consult with a family law attorney experienced in handling divorce cases, especially those involving complex circumstances such as mental challenges. Be prepared to discuss the details of your marriage, your husband's condition, and any relevant financial and personal matters with the attorney during the consultation.
