A: In California, if you believe you are a victim of harassment, you can seek a restraining order against the individual causing you harm or distress. To obtain a restraining order, you must file the necessary paperwork with the court, detailing the harassment or abuse and provide any evidence, such as text messages. Once filed, a hearing date will be set. If granted, the restraining order will prohibit your mother from contacting you and coming near you for a specified duration. It's essential to attend the hearing and present your case. If you feel threatened or fear for your safety, it's crucial to communicate that to the court. I recommend gathering all evidence and consulting with an attorney experienced in family law or restraining orders to assist you in the process. Remember, legal documentation and clarity in presenting your case will be vital.
