A: In California, during a divorce proceeding, both parties are generally required to share relevant documents and information. If your ex's lawyer is requesting new copies of the divorce and response paperwork, it is typically part of the discovery process in which both parties exchange necessary information.

However, you are not obligated to provide documents that have already been furnished unless there are specific circumstances justifying a second request. It's advisable to consult with your own attorney to understand your rights and obligations in this situation. If you are representing yourself, consider the reasonableness of the request and any court rules regarding document sharing.

Keep in mind that cooperation in the discovery process can help in the smooth progression of your case. Additionally, if the request is deemed unreasonable or burdensome, your attorney can address this with the court. Ensuring clear communication and adherence to legal procedures is important in a divorce case, especially with parties located overseas.
