Q: What should I do in a case of fraudulent misrepresentation?

Was convinced to sign up for a service by door to door salesmen. They said it would only cost $50/mo, cheaper than what I paid at the time, & the first month wouldn't exceed $70. Told to ignore higher total when it calculated to $120. Perjuration made first bill $300+. Tried to cancel. Was directed to online chatbot as only way to cancel. Company acted like it didn't know I canceled for 2-3 months. Demanded I send back equipment through UPS in box they would send me as only option to return equipment. If they didn't get it back, they would charge $500+. Just got call from debt collectors saying I owe full amount, as equipment needed to he returned within the first 30 days of qualifying for that service for that to apply. Reported to bank & changed card. Unsure of where to go from here.

A: An Ohio attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for over a week. This is a mess that could require sorting out beyond what is possible with a few quick recommendations on a Q & A forum. At this point, the debt collector will require attention - either on your own, expressing the arguments you pose here, or through an attorney. If the matter is not resolved at this level, and the company directs their debt collector to place the matter into suit, the costs of dealing with it could go up. One option is to try to arrange a brief consult with a local attorney to review the matter and the most cost-effective approach - confront and fight it, negotiate it, etc. Good luck
