Weston, FL asked in Landlord - Tenant and Real Estate Law for New York

Q: Is it legal in nyc to set up a hidden camera in the living room area w/o informing my roommate if I am primary tenant?

One of my roommates is attempting to become a holdover tenant at the end of our lease. I am primary tenant on a joint lease. The guarantor is sending her a written cease and desist. For my safety and proof for the security deposit in case she purposefully damages the apartment, I am considering to set up a hidden camera in the connected kitchen/living room space which is a common area for all of us. Is this legal? Can I get into trouble despite this is a common area? Can this video be used in court? If video is not allowed, how about screenshots of the video or audio since NY is a one party consent state? Thank you!
