Alexandria, VA asked in Landlord - Tenant and Small Claims for Maryland

Q: I filed in small claims to have my security deposit returned…

I was awarded a judgement for the portion not returned. I have a couple of questions: why wasnt interest factored in? Did i specifically need to ask for it? My landlord has made no attempt in nearly a year to pay me. How do i get the money owed to me? I was in a homeless shelter. The shelter asked a few of us to move into a neighboring home that was renting individual rooms. We were told they would pay up to three months rent while we secured a housing voucher. I received a lease that stated a security deposit was paid on my behalf-equivalent to two months rent. When i vacated the landlord said the amount was incorrect and gave me half the amount. The shelter stated the lease was correct. I was awarded the other half without compensation for filing fees or interest. In addition, no penalty was added. How do i get those amounts added?

Regardless, how do i force payment? My current landlord is awaiting the money for my current security deposit.
