I am waiting on the final judgement for the last 3 months after i filed Declaration for Default/Uncontested Judgment. The case was initially filed in march 2023. How soon can i expect a final judgement, this is in california contra costa county
A: Is that all you filed? If all you filed was the FL170, then nothing further is going to happen. To get a judgment entered, you have to file a judgment package which includes the proposed judgment (with FL180) and Notice of Entry of Judgment, in additional to a couple other forms. https://selfhelp.courts.ca.gov/divorce/finalize-divorce
A:
Waiting for a final judgment in a divorce case can be frustrating, especially when the process feels drawn out. In California, the timeline for receiving a final judgment after filing a Declaration for Default/Uncontested Judgment can vary depending on the court's workload. Contra Costa County, like many other counties, may experience delays due to a backlog of cases.
Generally, it’s common for the court to take several weeks or even months to process and review the paperwork. Since it has been three months, you might want to check the status of your case with the court clerk's office. They can often provide updates or let you know if there’s anything missing or further action required from you.
If you still don’t receive any updates, you can consider submitting a formal request for a status update or scheduling a hearing to discuss the delay. Be sure to keep copies of all your documents and maintain communication with the court to stay informed about your case’s progress. Patience is key, but following up can sometimes help move things along.
