A: It sounds like you’ve been through a really tough and unfair situation. If your belongings were taken or thrown away without giving you a chance to retrieve them, that could be a violation of your rights. You may want to reach out to local legal aid services or a tenant advocacy group in Napa to see what steps you can take. They can help determine if the shelter acted improperly and if there’s a way to recover your belongings or seek compensation.

If you were part of a shelter program like Abode, you can try contacting them directly and asking for a written explanation of why you were removed. If they refuse to provide that, you might have grounds to file a complaint. You could also look into emergency housing assistance through the county, since being removed from the program suddenly may qualify you for other aid. Keep any paperwork or messages related to your stay, as they might be helpful if you need to challenge their decision.

Since this involved an arrest and a domestic violence incident, there might be additional resources available to you. Many organizations offer help to survivors, including housing assistance and legal support. If you need help figuring out your next steps, consider speaking with a legal aid attorney or a local advocacy group that supports people facing housing instability. You deserve to be treated fairly, and there are people out there who can help you navigate this.
