It can vary greatly. If you are accepted on your first attempt the process can just take weeks. This rarely happens. More likely the process will take about 18 months.

It should be available from the clerk in PR. It is a public record, if there is one. If there is not a divorce decree or final judgment, or whatever it might be called, then they could still be married. My gut feeling is that there was no divorce and if that is the case, she would be the only one... View More

I believe that you have to have been married for 10 years. You should contact social security to find out if you have any claim. Did he die after 5 years of receiving benefits, or was it 5 years after the marriage?
Ready to file a hearing date but they also keep telling me that it will be done before october of this year so could u tell me something and i live here in florida

Listen to your attorney. SS cases take an inordinate amount of time, they always do. The benefit to you is that when you win you will get the back payments due to you from when you filed.

Just because it would appear to be age discrimination, does not mean that it is. There were probably differences between the two cases. Has the mother reapplied? She should get to a social security lawyer immediately, it is a long process which needs to get started.
