First, contact your homeowners or renters insurance and open a claim so they can take care of defending you if you get sued by the lady. Otherwise, following the instructions on the letter from animal control or hire an attorney.

It sounds like you are saying that a person you hired to do work on your home was injured while performing work for you. Q: Does paying a person (after performing an act) invalidate the immunity of the Good Samaritan Law?

i.e., if you injure a person while saving him/her AND the family pays you some money as a "reward", can the family then sue you for injuring the person?

The act of payment would not bar a lawsuit, but that payment certainly could be used as evidence to strengthen your position that your acts were that of a Good Samaritan when you bring a motion to dismiss or a motion for summary judgment.

If I understand your question correctly, the mother of the injured 18 year-old (who has reached his/her majority) doesn't have the right to sue for the injury of her son or daughter, unless that son or daughter is under some legally recognized disability. The right to sue for the damages... View More

You could, if time allowed, file a motion to reconsider to the judge who entered the order or file a timely notice of appeal to the Illinois Appellate Court, assuming that the order was final and appealable.
