A: If your case was dismissed without prejudice in California, you generally have the opportunity to refile the claims. The judge's comments suggest you should act quickly to meet any statutory deadlines and comply with court procedural rules. Since you're having difficulty finding legal representation due to the length and complexity of your case, consider consulting with a legal aid service or utilizing online resources to guide you through the process of refiling your claims properly.

A: The Judicial Branch's website and the law library have vast resources. It is unlikely legal aid will assist in this matter. It's also unlikely an attorney will assist you on a contingency basis. Some attorneys will be willing to assist you on a limited basis or perhaps a hybrid basis (part hourly/part contingency.) You will need to contact them.

Limited-scope representation is when you and a lawyer agree that the lawyer will handle some parts of your case and you will handle others. This is different from more traditional arrangements between lawyers and clients where a lawyer is hired to provide legal services on all aspects of a case, from start to finish. Limited-scope representation is sometimes called “unbundling” or “discrete task representation.”
