Q: Can my employer (CA) require that I probide a doctor's note for calling out 3 days in a row?
I work for a large grocery chain, my store being located in California. I have been very sick this week and when I called out for the 3rd day today, they said I am required to have a doctor's note, and that if I call out again for a 4th day they are "putting me on LOA." I do not have a doctor, medical insurance, nor the money to make an appointment with any of the urgent care clinics in town just for a note.
Can my employer demand this of me?
I don't recall this being in the employee handbook, but if it is, am I then required to follow it?
