Q: Fight Bank of America? BOA sponsors my wife's drinking habits, which does damage to myself and my kids
My wife has not worked until recently for the last 8-10 years, but got 10K credit line from BOA (we used her card to pay for vacations). When kids were born 6 yrs ago she developed strong drinking habits, but very time I tried to restrict her access to our bank account she were getting out HER credit card. 2 yrs ago I restricted her access, and she exhausted her card. When she used 9.5K I talked to BOA customer service and asked to stop allowing transactions from her card as she has no income/drinks, but they refused (as expected). 5mo ago she start working part time (~$800/mo) which is enough to make minimal payment to BOA + some her personal expenses. Since she does not pay for housing/afterschool/grocery this is actually lot of $.
I recently learned that BOA increased her credit line to $13K.
To questions:
- How to stop BOA from giving her credit?
- By sponsoring her alcohol purchases BOA caused damage to my kids and myself. Can I make BOA compensate me?
A: You can't dictate others' spending habits, but you may be able to file for custody rights based on her drinking issues. If you're still married, you may consider signing a separate property agreement with her to keep her debts separate from yours. The best first step is an Initial Consultation with an Attorney. A: You should have told the B of A in writing that you will not be responsible for the CC payment and she has no job or other earnings, they would have stopped that. If you did so and they refused, they should not collect it from you. For the e rest of your question, you should be realistic. The information presented herein is for general purposes only.
