You need to follow the accepted custom in your profession. I recommend that you give at least 3 to 6 months notice. Good luck.

Q: Do I need an employment lawyer?

I was hired as a AP Clerk in a school district in Jan 2011. I was promoted in August 2013 to School Business Administrator. Do I have tenure?

He needs to apply for a student visa on his own. However it may take a while before one is granted, if at all. It is a complex process. He needs to apply to US schools and see if he can get a scholarship, among other things. Good luck.
