If the sign clearly cannot be seen take a picture of it bring that picture with you to court and you will have a good defense that should win.

Unless this is your third offense or you drive for a living, generally best just to pay it and not waste your day in court. A third offense has up to 90 days suspension of your license so that one you need to fight and then I also suggest hiring a good lawyer.
