In truth, it's hard to say. The reason being that intensity of prosecution varies greatly by county and even by courthouse within counties. Additionally, the range of punishment is very large which makes it even harder to give a definitive answer.

At 34 mph over, that is a class B...

Q: I'm 18.. Should I just plea guilty to my class B misdemeanor speeding ticket?

I was going 66 on a 35. The speed limit was originally 45 but dropped to 35. I didn't notice that. It was at night by the way when there was no cars.

First, you should be aware that if you received a moving violation conviction in the last 2 years, you WILL be suspended and that suspension will likely be at least 2 months and most likely 3 months. Having 2 convictions for moving violations in 24 months WILL have that result if you are under 21... View More

Truth be told, it depends. If it is Cook County, no, you will not need a lawyer in any way because the standard policy there is to dismiss these tickets IF you received a new non-expired license in hand.

If it is not Cook County, they may not dismiss it and may ask for you to return with...

Q: what happens if I don't pay my speed camera ticket from Chicago IL?

Received both a warning and a ticket issued on the same day within a minute of each other. The ticket says it is not a uniform traffic citation and it will not impact your driving privileges but if I don't pay they can suspend my license?

Automated speeding and traffic light cameras cannot form the basis of a suspension for receiving too many violations. That much is true. What this refers to is the rule where 3 moving violations convictions in 12 months (21 or older) or two moving violations in 24 months (if under 21) results in... View More

It's up to you. if you have NEVER received a ticket, mailing in the ticket and requesting court supervision is a valid strategy since it is the cheapest way to request court supervision and court supervision is likely under the circumstances since you have never had a ticket. If you do take... View More

Q: First speeding ticket. Going 65mph in a 35mph zone on my motorcycle at 9:30PM on a quiet road in IL. What can I expect?

I am a 19 year old male with a sports bike (2014 Ninja 300 - first bike - been riding for about 6 months) in Edwardsville IL. I was picking up a few groceries and was excited because I had a date that night. I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize how fast I was going and never... View More

First, you can expect a number of things. Speeding 26-34 mph over the limit is what is known as a class B misdemeanor under the Illinois Vehicle Code. It is punishable by up to 180 days in jail and or a fine of up to $1500. While these extreme penalties are rare for many drivers, the nature of... View More

No, you cannot simply pay down the tickets to get under the 10 unpaid ticket limit. Unfortunately, this is not possible. Instead, you must pay the tickets off entirely. That said, there are ways to make this manageable.

Q: I got a ticket on May last year but got another ticket towards the end of April this year, will my license be suspended?

Will I still be able to get court supervision and apply for traffic school?

If I cannot get traffic school, can I take the class outside of court so my insurance rate won't go up?

For my last ticket in May, I got court supervision and attended traffic school and didn't violate my supervision.

First, no, your license will not be suspended at least based on receiving two tickets for which one resulted in a successful court supervision. That said, I am saying this in the abstract because there are types of tickets that can, on their own, result in a suspension. The rule for suspensions... View More

Q: My 19 year old son got a speeding ticket for 80 in a 70. Hours later he "ran a stop sign" what can we expect?

Running the stop sign was bogus. He pulled in lane #1 (taking a right) after sitting at the sign trying to make a left in a 5 lane busy area. He finally decided to take a right and find a traffic light to get turned around. He made the right hand turn into lane #1 and got 70+ feet down the road... View More

Q: How many tickets do you have to get in order for your license to be suspended?

I received a speeding ticket when I was 17, 13 months later I received another one but went through 6 months of court supervision and got it removed, now about a year later I got into an accident and received a ticket. Is my license going to get suspended and for how long?

The basis for suspending a license for too many tickets depends on your age at the time of the most recent conviction. If you are under 21 years of age, you will be suspended if you receive two convictions in a 24 month period. If you are 21 or older, you will be suspended if you receive three... View More
