You will need to Request an Appeal at the Appeals Council level and hope that it is remanded back to the local office for re-evaluation.

It almost always protects the children more if there is a formal child support agreement in place with the Court as it can be enforceable through the Department of Revenue.

I would call the local Social Security Administrative office in your area. I would not reapply until you speak with them. You shouldn't have to apply again if you have an approval letter. It can sometimes take weeks and even several months to receive payment.

We always suggest that you apply for SSDI and see if you are eligible. Please keep in mind, the process is tedious and can take as little as 3 months or as long as 24+ months. It's imperative to have all medical documentation and appointments up to date at all times.
