Minn driver given ticket for driving on expired license from another state. Had moved to Minn and not obtained Minn license within required time. Is this a conviction to be listed on job application? Happened 5-8+ years ago. Don't know reason for stop. No other ticket reported from this in Jenny.

Each person completing a job application must decide what to include. A lawyer who practices in the area of employment law might be able to shed light on any questions about that. As far as whether a traffic ticket is a criminal "conviction" The vast majority of traffic tickets are... View More

Identity of the car could be an issue at trial, but better to not mention that and try to see if the prosecutor will agree to an outcome that will keep it off the drivers license record, on conditions including payment of court or prosecution costs. If they never do offer that kind of outcome,... View More
When I got each ticket the officers drop them on the spot so they wouldn't go on my driving record should I just pay the tickets or could that mean I might take the chance of losing my license.

If a moving violation goes on to a person's Minnesota drivers license record, that can eventually count towards a "habitual violator" license revocation. Four within 12 months is the first trigger. See https://www.revisor.mn.gov/rules/?id=7409.2200

You should look at retaining an attorney. Four traffic violations in twelve months or 5 in 24 months will result in a license suspension. Your attorney might be able to help you avoid one or more of the convictions. You also need to slow down.
I was illegal back in 2014 and before then all tho way to 2011 I had traffic tickets driving with out a license and insurance, they supposlty cancel or revoked my license, but I never had a license in the first place, and I never knew about it.. then in 2015 i was able to fix my immigration status,... It is difficult to understand the situation from that description. You can check the status of your Minnesota drivers license by entering the number on a webpage of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. If you are charged with a crime similar to Driving After Revocation (or Suspension or... View More
It would have been my first speeding ticket but it was dismissed by a court because the officer was no show. The offense was going 75 on a 60. However I was told that the police department could resubmit this ticket and I would have to return to court even though the judge already dismissed it. How... View More

That rarely happens. If it does though, it is certainly an advantage to have a lawyer's help. I encourage everyone to fight every traffic ticket, with or without a lawyer.

For Minnesota crime and violations, the shortest Minnesota statute of limitations I've seen is three years.
My husband was recently pulled over, after running his insurance and license and nothing was wrong the police office said since my husband has a Minnesota license plate but still has a Florida license, he is giving him a ticket, also giving him a ticket for windows being tinted too dark, and then... It sounds like a police officer may have issued three traffic tickets for three different alleged violations. Police are not required to give a warning first. Most tint shops can help measure the tint to see if its within the limits of Minnesota law. If it is, get some proof for use at court.... View More
Hopkins Minnesota. I was contacted 4 days after the incident by phone. No officer on scene. Unaware of any video proof.

Passing a school bus is a misdemeanor if no kids were boarding/getting off; it is a gross misdemeanor if they were. You will need to appear in court for this matter. It is unlikely that there would be video proof. Typically, the bus driver calls law enforcement after a stop arm violation and... View More
There was nothing illegal on our vehicle. Can they pull us over for a “junk” car?He had lost his license for 30 days due to no insurance. And now it’s going to be even longer before he gets it back.
answered on Mar 5, 2018
If the car is listed as "junk" or "salvaged" if cannot be driven unless and until the vehicle is repaired and a new title is issued. This sounds like it would be a valid traffic stop. Your husband should not be driving without a valid driver's license as it is a crime and... View More

Yes. Though those facts might be evidence in favor of the defense. The inference could be that it was a close call.
I was cited for windows having tint less than 50% light transmission, but the citation does not list a measurement of the light transmission of my window tint, or any information about the meter used (calibration date, model, serial #). Would it be likely to have this citation dropped for not... View More

It would not need to be listed on the citation, but at trial the burden of producing evidence to support the charge would be on the prosecuting attorney. The defense could ask the judge to exclude evidence that lacks a valid foundation -- such as a police officer's testimony about comparing... View More

Vehicle Conditions of Release
answered on Feb 26, 2018
The vehicle conditions of release are what things you have to deal with to get the vehicle back. Typically, they would require that there is proof of insurance on the vehicle and that the impound fee be paid before it is released.
Mandatory holds would reference whether there is a reason... View More

Once a ticket has been filed, there is generally no meaningful time limit on how quickly it needs to be resolved unless you have demanded a speedy trial. It's hard for me to tell from the question whether you were given a citation and things just sat out there for eight years or if you were... View More

Marijuana in a Motor Vehicle (more than 1.4 grams, but 42.5 grams or less of plant-form) is a misdemeanor crime related to driving. It's not unusual for it to be treated as a "payable offense" by the prosecution, so that the driver can mail in a fine without going to court. But the... View More

There is generally a law library fee and surcharge on top of the fine. The surcharge is $75. The law library fee generally depends on the county but is about $10.
It is my first ever speeding ticket is it worth contesting. I was driving to work to a place that i only drive to once a month.

Most people with a clean traffic record want to keep it that way. The only way to accomplish that is to go to court, and try to get an outcome that will not affect the drivers license record. Paying the fine will result in both a conviction and a drivers license record of the conviction.... View More

No news is good news. Hope for never. If you do receive one, be sure to set a court appearance and show up to try to keep it off your record. It's difficult to get one off your record once there. It's best to prevent a conviction in the first place.
