The dog belongs to the jail bird's heirs (kids, spouse or parents). If you don't know who they are, then take the dog to get shots and a license in your name and keep the receipts.

Check with the Humane Society if your dog goes missing. Get a copy of your dogs veterinarian records. Go file suit with your Justice of the Peace for Conversion.

Q: if someone pays part of cost to buy dog as gift, can they claim & win ownership in court?

microchip in my name, vet records and registration papers in my name. sheriff's office refused to intervene despite paperwork, stating civil matter.

Q: someone gave me a dog 5 months ago and now out of the blue after not once checking on him they want him back.

Tell them no, get the dog licensed and shots, try to get them to admit in person or on the phone that they gave you the dog, and record it.

If he's your dog, then of course you can get vaccination and license records from your Veterinarian or the Humane Society and a receipt for purchase or adoption from the ASPCA that you can take to the Sheriff's Office to file a theft complaint. Then you can build a fence around your yard

Call the Sheriff's Office and Animal Control because their Pitts will kill your dog eventually. Video the holes in the fence. Put the video on a flash drive.

You can evict your mother with the dogs or you can help her house train the dogs. Anything else is illegal.
