You do not have to live in the US in order to collect SS retirement. Many retirees get their SS checks/deposits each month even though they live in another country. Some people retire to whatever country they grew up in while others (e.g. people born and raised in the US) purposely choose to live... View More

SSI is needs based and has strict asset and income restrictions. It might not be right that a person with SSI cannot save for a "rainy day," but that is how the law is written. You can be completely and totally disabled but if you do not qualify for SSDI and you have too many assets or... View More
I was laid off in 2012. I continued to pay all debts until approx Jan 2016 when I ran out of money (including liquidating all retirement savings). I have been on disability since June 8, 2015. I was granted Social Security benefits - my only source of income - in July 2016. I have no car, no real... View More

It is better to get out ahead of them. While SSI & SSDI direct deposits are exempt, that will not necessarily prevent a judgment creditor from trying to collect against them and forcing you to explain why they are exempt.
At age 12, I fell flat on my back from a high (supposedly) karate kick in the air. I've had horrible lower back problems since. My mother would take me to massage therapists who always claimed it was a slipped disc. As I got older I made several trips to the ER regarding lower back pain. In... View More

Check with legal aid/legal services for the county you are in. Homeless services may also help. You need medical assistance so you can get the medical evaluations you need. If there is a vocational rehab department in California they might be able to help.
The Respondent receives SS disability. Please explain. If Respondent dies, his new wife and new children will have to pay what he owed? Is there any law, that allows Court to sanction, condition of future income?

Social Security cases take a long time. 4 years strikes me as too long, though. If your lawyer won't contact you, fire him and hire another lawyer.

Have you asked your lawyer why she took this action? Ordinarily, a lawyer would consult with her client first. She may feel that your case is not ready for a hearing because she only just became involved. I urge you to talk with her.

I don't practice in your state but I have practiced SS law in Virginia for 35 years. You did not list your age in your question. If your impairment is confined to one hand, then this would not usually qualify you for Disability by itself. You can still do one-armed work. Check with your state... View More
