Q: Policeman called me hours after giving me a ticket and told me to tear up the ticket. What should I do?

Yesterday I was given a ticket for doing a U-turn on a (left) green arrow. The policeman said that meant left turn only, not a U-turn. He cited me for failing to obey a signal, four points and $100. He instructed me on how to pay the fine. I asked if I was able to go to court and he said yes,... View More

In Colorado (as all other states), you can do a U-turn on a green arrow provided it is (1) safe and (2) there is no prohibition (i.e. a "no U-Turn" sign). It sounds like the officer got the rules wrong. I would hold on to the ticket to make sure that the infraction is expunged.

Does Colorado state law allows automated speed cameras on the highways. I heard that they allow it only on construction zone and School zone.

The cameras can be anywhere that is "public" (this is true for all states). Also, per you question about when you can expect a citation, I do not know. If I was to venture a guess, I would think no longer than a month.

What is the possiblity of getting a overspeed ticket via mail, if i was not pulled over by any cop?, I was driving on I70 in Colorado. I am new to US and was not aware of the strict speed enforcement till someone informed me about strict actions taken against overspeeding in US. I am not sure if... View More

If you we not stopped by the police, should not receive a ticket in the mail. Photo radar cameras are a possibility; most are mobile, so it they are not easy to avoid. You generally know you got caught by photo radar cameras if you saw a bright flash (like a professional photographer took a... View More

Q: Colorado: I was eligible to get my license back in 2014 with Interlock. Was stopped 09/01/16 speeding & revocation

If I get my license and Interlock for my car before court date in October is there a chance charges will be dropped?

Unfortunately, getting a license after-the-fact will not impact the violation. Even if you received your license without restriction the next day, the revocation violation occurred when you did not have a license. From a legal perspective, you should not have been driving until you reapplied and... View More

While you may (and this is doubtful) be able to challenge a contempt charge if you fail to appear/pay the ticket, you still must pay the ticket or challenge the ticket in court.

Q: What items do police officers need to write a speeding ticket? Do they need to clock me, have audio and visualization?

It depends on the situation. The main thing is that the office must somehow be able to assess that the speed was in excess of the speed limit or excessive for the underlying conditions. You are welcome to challenge the ticket.

There is a way to seal old convictions. They are generally not discoverable to the public, but the police will be able to the convictions. Here is the link: https://www.courts.state.co.us/Self_Help/sealingrecords/ .

First contact the police (an physical appearance is likely required) and provide proof of insurance. If the police will not remove the charge then you will need to contest the ticket. The information on how to contest the ticket should be on the ticket itself. The officer should have called the... View More

Yes, you can still be subject to a bench warrant; the tickets prove by definition that you are driving without a license. I won't speculate why the police are being so generous, but I recommend that you stop driving. As for the likelihood of a warrant, I cannot say - it depends on whether the... View More

Are you referring to Will County, IL? If so, try reposting this question in the Illinois section of Justia because Colorado's driver's laws (and statute of limitations) have not application for matters occurring outside of the state. From a google search, it appears the IL does not have a... View More

If your revocation has already been decided by the traffic court/DMV then there is nothing that you can do to get back your license any faster. If your case has not been decided then you may be able to have the discretionary portion of your suspension reduced via safe driving classes or seeking... View More

Q: can I get a driving under revocation if I was out of the vehicle and the officer didn't see me get out or driving

The officer likely either used a witness, the security cameras or logic (we you the only person in the 7/11?) to tie you to the car. Driving without a license does not require that you be physically in the car. It does require evidence that the car was used by a person with a revoked license. The... View More

Q: I have a ticket in NC from 01 for driving w out of state expired license. Ive moved to CO, and need a DL. How to deal?

I am disabled, and was very sick right around the time I incurred the ticket, including an actual coma after an auto accident, and had no recall of receiving the ticket untill I was informed a day before I moved to Colorado..how can I take care of this, so I can get a DL..it is urgently needed.

This is a relatively simply matter. First you need to pay-off the NC ticket (and complete any classes if required). If NC put a hold on your record, you will need to resolve the matter fully before applying for a CO license. If you do not have a hold, you can apply for a CO license (note: this will... View More
