I purchased 3 dogs in the past 4 years. My ex gf and I separated. I brought them to see her at a store and she took them from me while I was in the store. I called the sheriffs office and they "so say" filed a theft report. I have the registrations and micro chips in my name and I know... View More

The question here is ownership. If ownership is an issue, the police don't (and won't) make that determination. You will need to file suit to retrieve the dogs. You need to consult with an attorney to determine your rights and your likelihood of success, along with the cost of doing so.... View More
She has never had a job, therefore couldn't have purchased them and the micro chip and registrations are in my name. She took them without permission and will not five them back. The local authorities will do nothing about this saying it's considered a civil matter. Yet, a pet is... View More

File a civil suit with the Justice of the Peace and file an internal affairs complaint with the Sheriff's Office.
The 3 cats are chipped in my name and were not to be left there forever. My ex knew that. What are my rights?

Cats can be manually donated. You no longer have any rights.
My mom purchased a Labrador from a woman who breeds dogs. Recently, my mom thought it might be best to find a new home for the dog (now 5 years old) & handed him back over to the “breeder” woman 2 days ago. My mom did not realize the emotional ramifications of her actions & now wants... View More

Not worth suing her if she has no assets. If you got her from a service, notify the service. Otherwise avoid her like the plague.

Why would your ex wife have your dog? If you gave her the dog to watch while you were out of town, she's going to say the dog was a gift. You don't have to change the license with a dog to manually donate the dog to another person. You will have to a small claim suit and it will be a... View More

Depends who asked him to leave and where. You are absolute liable for any injuries your dog causes.

Leave your dog with someone else or board it while you are out of town. You can't MAKE her care for your dog.
He has a microchip that is registered to her. But she abandoned him. She wants to give him to another family that admit they want him but can’t afford to care for him. They can’t afford to fix the fence so he won’t get loose. They can’t afford to get him basic vaccinations or heartworm,... View More

Offer to buy the dog. See if that persuades the owner and pay with a check.
My mother is currently living with his sister because shes been evicted for the 4th time in the last couple of years. Get the old Vet record to prove neglect. Is the dog a purebred or mutt? If a mutt, the worst she can charge you with is theft of $1.25. If a pure bred but spayed, also no monetary value. Tell her if she tries to accuse you of theft, then you will file a criminal charge of neglect.
My husband and I have 6 cats-2 adults and 4 kittens. We are in Florida and have been gone for 2 weeks. Our pets are in my husband's step dad's home where no one but my husband and I live when we are in Louisiana. We leave a 13 pound bag of food and 3 gallons of water out for them and... View More

You can't leave your pets in someone else's home if they don't want them there. You need to come home immediately and take the 6 felines to the Humane Society since you currently can't care for them. By law you can only have 5 cats in a home. Cats need to be neutered and given shots annually.
They have food, water, etc and are in my husband's step dad's home that no one lives in except my husband and I when we are in louisiana. We are currently sleeping in our vehicle to save money for an apartment in Florida and were going to come get them when we had an apt. We have someone... View More

Yes someone can take them to the Humane Society for neglect. Cats need fresh water and food DAILY not weekly. They also need their litter cleaned/changed weekly and shots annually.

Vets will terminate pregnancies. Give your neighbor the bill. If he doesn't pay, file in small claims court. Get a higher fence.
We do have pictures of her being so under weight. We did not have a verbal or written agreement and there was no sale of dog they just gave her too us bc they 'couldnt take care of her anymore'. Refuse. Tell her see you in court. Your vet bills are proof she was a gift. Tell former owner if they make a stink, then you will file a criminal complaint of animal cruelty.
My child was outside and could have been hit too. Can I sue their homeowners or do I have to sue them personally for damages? He was arrested on felony charges of animal abuse and illegal discharge.
We took in a male in tact dog from someone who said he had to go that day or he would be euthanized for biting. We agree to pay her $200 for him later. I'm assuming you have a receipt or cancelled check for your original $200. If not, what were you thinking giving anyone more than $20 without a receipt? That being said, yes, your attorney can file a Petition for a Restraining Order. Record her calls, print her emails, screen shot, email... View More

You are being charged because dog owners are absolutely liable for all injuries caused by their pets. As a life long dog owner, I can say, you shouldn't own a dog unless you have a fenced yard and your dog is leash trained. Your dog needs to be current on all his shots or the dog will be put... You have to pay her if she sues and wins. But she can post all sorts of reviews about your bad breeding.
We plan on buying them a new rabbit and cage, but the dog wasn't in there yard originally. The neighbors who found him originally asked because the didn't have a yard to house him in and they said yes, he can stay in our backyard. So legally what should we be prepared for? Rabbit was... View More

Unfortunately pets are just worth a dollar amount in Louisiana. So you are only liable for property loss.
