Pets in Texas are treated as property. You have to be married to divide property. You maybe able to find a civil attorney that will file a case in a Justice of the Peace court and you can see what happens. Q: A lady in town went to jail and her dog went to the pound. She knew where the dog was and no one claimed it.

I adopted it. Now a year later she wants the dog back. This is in Texas. She said her lawyer is going to sue to get the dog back. Because the charges against her are being dismissed.

After so many days at the pound, the dog is considered surrendered. Even if adopted out an owner has a right to re-claim the proeprty but it must be done so within a certain time frame, this is typically 30 days. I do not think a year is reasonable; however, I do not know all the particular... View More

I believe so (my wife said yes) but it must be a certified service dog that has current registration and training. If the dog poses a threat for some reason I am sure it would be excluded. You should be able to ask the court you plan to attend.

No, you cannot just take someone's dog. I would suggest asking them if you can keep the dog. Otherwise, make a complaint to the appropriate agency if you do not want the behavior to continue.
