Ticket in september 2018. I received a letter telling me supervision has been denied on this second ticket and a conviction has been entered. I am over 21.
What does this mean? Do I have to pay more? Go to jail? Show up in court? Lose my license?

A second cell phone offense is treated as a moving violation (note: a first will count as a moving violation beginning in July under the new law). Because you are over 21, it would take 3 convictions within 12 months to cause a license suspension. However, if you want to remove the conviction, you... View More
I was in Illinois and I’m 19 and have no records of a speeding ticket before. I got one for going over 20 mph but not exceeding 25 mph. I was so nervous and didn’t want to forget paying my ticket so as soon as I got home I immediately paid it. But as I was reading I realized I didn’t click on... View More

Contact the Clerk’s Office at the courthouse where the ticket is assigned to see if a conviction was already entered. At this point, I would assume that a motion to vacate would need to be filed at the courthouse if you want to keep the offense off of your record. The case can be brought before... View More
I recieced two of the same types of tickets and just pleaded guilty and paid the court costs, I travel for work now and didnt realize the ticket from 2017 would effect my job. One county changed the mileage without a second question from back in 2016, the second county said it wasnt possible to... View More

An attorney may be able to file the motion and explain the circumstances to the prosecutor in order to secure a more favorable outcome.
i have insurance but it wasn’t with me in the car.

Bring the proof of insurance to court covering the day that the ticket was issued. It will be dismissed. It will not effect your court supervision.
answered on May 9, 2019
Unfortunately, no. You would need to resolve the ticket before you can get your license back. You may be able to file a motion to request supervision depending on the circumstances. It may be worth contacting an attorney that practices in that specific county/courthouse.
I was given a court date. Online it says this is punishable by 1500 fine and class b misdemeanor. How likely is it I would get that full punishment?
answered on May 5, 2019
The maximum penalty is very unlikely. However, it is still a criminal offense (Class B misdemeanor). The goal is to avoid a criminal conviction and minimize the other potential additional consequences. Community service, traffic school and fines are all more likely than jail time. A lot depends on... View More

They can revoke your court supervision and enter a conviction due to the new violation. As far as suspending or revoking your driver’s license - it would take 2 convictions within 24 months if you are under 21 years old. 3 convictions within 12 months if you are 21 or older.
It happened in Macon County, IL. I was speeding and got a ticket for that also.

The insurance ticket should require a court appearance. Fines and costs would be assessed by the judge. Bring proof of insurance covering the time of the ticket. If you didn’t have it, bring after-acquired insurance to minimize fines and request court supervision. A conviction would cause a... View More
I got 2 speeding tickets in a matter of a month, unfortunately. 2 of them are in different counties. I have already called one of the tickets circuit clerk and have a court date next month. Am I allowed to ask for court supervision for each other counties?

Technically, you can receive court supervision twice within a 12 month period. The judge has discretion. While it is not guaranteed, an attorney can help you achieve the best possible outcome.
Trying to decide if court supervision and a traffic safety class is necessary

The offense will still be reported to the Secretary of State even though a first offense is not a moving violation under current law (changing soon). Could effect insurance, etc. I would suggest requesting court supervision.
citation says no court appearance required but I received the letter from circuit court that court appearance required.
answered on Mar 26, 2019
That is likely because you received more than one citation. The officer mistakenly marked the tickets as no court appearance required. If you are unable to appear in court, contact an attorney that practices in the courthouse where your tickets are assigned. An attorney may be able to appear on... View More
I am 20 years old and recently finished court supervision back in November from a different ticket for speeding.
answered on Mar 26, 2019
You should try to avoid a conviction on the new ticket as well. Technically, you are eligible for court supervision (a non-conviction sentence) twice within a 12 month period, but it is not automatic. It may be worth consulting with an attorney to assist you. Your license will not be suspended... View More
got a ticket for speeding last year and had court supervision and traffic school in Illinois. If I just got a ticket recently for not fully stopping at a stop sign, will the judge let me do court supervision again? Or will it go on my record for my insurance to see
answered on Mar 26, 2019
You can technically receive court supervision twice within a 12 month period, but it is not automatic, it is at the judge's discretion. An attorney may be able to assist in securing a second order of court supervision.

If they were reported to the Secretary of State, you will need to pay them prior to obtaining a license.
I received a DUI the state of Missouri, Summer of 2016. It resulted in my license being suspended and having to complete a SATOP program. I’m now a Illinois resident and am looking to getting my license here.
answered on Mar 21, 2019
Illinois will likely not issue a license until the suspension/hold out of Missouri is cleared. If you want to avoid completing the program, you should consult with an attorney in Missouri to see if there is another way to remove the suspension.
She was going 42 in a 35 speed limit area. Can I (her mother) go to court for her and ask for the ticket to be thrown out since it is her first offense or can she only get court supervision? But either way does she have to go to court and pay the ticket?
answered on Mar 17, 2019
Your daughter, or an attorney, would have to be present in court. A dismissal is only likely if the officer fails to appear. Otherwise, court supervision (with traffic school because she is under 21 years old) may be the best case scenario.
I'm always careful when driving and I don't believe I committed the violation. What are my options for dealing with the $100 ticket plus a convenience fee of 2.50? I'd like to get it dismissed and want to keep my driving record clean.
answered on Mar 17, 2019
The fine and convenience fee seem to indicate that this may be some type of local ordinance violation that is not going to be reported to the Secretary of State (and may not appear on your driving record). Read the ticket carefully, if it gives you the option of court supervision/traffic school,... View More
Due to running on a red light that I just notice and couldn’t stop because I’m already in the middle of the intersection while driving so the hearing will be due on March 28,2019 what can I do? It’s just my first time driving experience and I got a new car
answered on Mar 17, 2019
You can follow the instructions to contest the ticket based on the fact that you were already in the intersection when the light changed. It may require that you appear in court for a hearing. It is up to the Judge to review the evidence and determine if you were at fault. Otherwise, just pay the... View More
But the ticket says court appearance required. what do I do?
answered on Mar 17, 2019
If it is marked "Court Appearance Required", you or your attorney will need to appear in court. Unfortunately, the officer may have misspoke. You can contact the Clerk's Office at the courthouse where the ticket is assigned to verify.
I did not receive any tickets within the 3 month time period, and I also have the letter from the school stating I completed the driving school. Do I need to have a guardian present, or can I go alone and show them the sheet and be done with the case?
answered on Mar 17, 2019
You should be fine going to court on the termination date without your parent or guardian to simply show the proof of completion of your traffic school.
