The child needs a suitable place to sleep. Whether the office / spare room is suitable is a question of fact. From what you're telling us, and unless the parenting time order specifies something, I don't see how your setup would be "illegal".
I just don't want her mother to file any charges against him once he turns 18. She is fine with their relationship but has a tendency of being dramatic when she's mad.

Child support ends at age 18. If the child is still in high school or in an institution up until 19 1/2 . If the support is imposed by a court order then until the court ends the support obligation.
