Consenting to custody by someone else does not change your support obligation; only adoption would end the obligation of support

You should contact a child support lawyer in your area and set up a meeting---when you meet please bring a copy of the order relative to payment of child support and the order relative to custody so that the lawyer can review the law of your case and advise accordingly. Good luck.

Your attorney can file for child support in your custody case in 19th JDC and can file an exception in 24th JDC to child support since you are domiciliary parent.

Q: Is there any way to not be responsible for amounts during incarceration?

Hello, I owe state alot of back child support for a child who is now 20 years old. I was incarcerated a majority of his life am I responsible during times of incarcerated. also is it too late to order paternity test?

Any money given to the mother, after the date that the child support motion was filed, can be credited against arrears, ongoing or future child support, IF the father can prove it was paid.

He will have to pay child support from whenever they filed for it IF the paternity test reveals he is the father.

No, child support and visitation have nothing to do with each other, and 2 wrongs don't make a right. If he's not paying his child support, you can file a rule to have him held in contempt. Likewise, if you refuse to allow him visitation, he can file to have you held in contempt.

Hire a child support lawyer who practices in the parish from which the support order is originating. Get certified copies of your pre-existing child support orders.

Q: I filled for child support through the state, DCFS. I have no lawyer, do I need one and what can I expect?

No custody agreement has been set in place yet, the kids have been with me since May of this year. I haven't been served the actual papers yet but my court date is December 1st.

The state will represent you on child support but you need a private attorney for custody.
