When a child is adopted, parental rights and child support are terminated. However since he is paying child support, he must be notified of the proposed adoption. I'll bet he will consent to it since he has shown no interest in the child.

Your best bet is to discuss this with your DHS caseworker and see what the DHS attitude is about what you want. Also ask when the next Court date is scheduled, and tell them you want to be there. You need to hire a NEW experienced family law attorney IMMEDIATELY, to appeal, or get another hearing. There is a 30 day time limit involved. Before you get a new attorney, instruct your current attorney, IN WRITING, to file a motion for a new trial. Good luck.
