Q: Is is against the law in Georgia to ask for money for our dog that was stolen that she has admitted to having

Our home was broken into and our dog was stolen we now have found him and the person that has him is requiring we pay 1000$ to give him back to us. Isn't this against the law. She has already admitted that he is ours and that the person we suspected that broke into our home did bring her the dog.

I’m not aware of how asking for a reward for a dog is illegal, necessarily. But if you suspect this person had to do with your dog being stolen then you should call the police to get your dog back.

Q: Am I in the wrong regarding my dog and property?

I have a temporary neighbor, or at least I believe she's just moved in with her family that lives half of a mile down our dirt road due to COVID-19. You can’t really stop someone from calling the police. If the police haven’t done anything and haven’t issued you a ticket or summons, then you might just have to deal with it until she gets tired of calling with no results. If you have been issued a ticket or a summons, then you’ll want to... Read more »

It does not appear that you have any legal or equitable interest in the property. You did not mention taxes being paid by you or any type of deed conveyance. In fact it looks like you do not even have possession which a new owner would have to evict you from. Adverse Possession cannot be filed... Read more »

You should contact the police. They will/should launch an investigation. Hopefully you have proof of the crime. It’s best to do it sooner rather than later because statute of limitations may be a factor.

I wish you well.

This is an unfortunate circumstance. This is a civil matter and you would sue the veterinarian in court. It is best to contact an attorney as soon as possible, preserve evidence (records, pictures, etc.) and any additional vet bills you acquired after trying to help your dog.

Not many facts to work on here, also question was posted in Animal/Dog Law. But a warrant is usually something issued by a court for the arrest of another person. So I don't see how you would take out a warrant. Perhaps you meant to file a complaint against somebody?

You can bring a civil action against her for nuisance and trespass.

If you haven't already done so, send a cease and desist letter or hire an attorney to do it. You can use that letter in court if she continues her behavior.

Make a copy of the letter, give it to your car insurance.

First, you are not responsible if a dog is running free. Get a copy of the borough code section and send a copy to your insurance company.

Do not discuss this on...

Police investigate cases, and either charge or don't charge. Was your dog off its leash? Did the scooter driver get a DUI ticket?
