Find another relative of hers who can help. You do not want to be charged with harboring a runaway.

Yes! But unless someone complains to dcfs or the police, no one will care. Usually it is the mother's parents that get upset.

Talk to the state's attorneys office. Ask for a xopy of the police reports. Take the reports to a lawyer for review to determine whether or not you even have a case.

You can proceed to the State's Attorney's office or contact the law enforcement agency who has jurisdiction to see if they are willing to pursue. Generally if there is an eyewitness to such an event the State will move forward with it.

You are not alone.
Short of the State coming in and finding both parents unfit and yanking you out and placing you somewhere, you are stuck.
He has been accused of touching a 15 yr old girl inappropriately, by her and her parents. Can they take him in to be questioned about this without a parent. If so, can he refuse to answer any questions until his parent is there?

One parent has to sue the other parent to get educational expenses for a child. If the parents are living together or married, the child is out of luck. No emancipation for this issue.

They have been picked up leaving a party high, returned him home after 24 hours without me knowing where my son was and I reported him as a runaway. Contact the local prosecutor. That adult is contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

You can sign him into a facility. However, they are not locked facilities, so if they do not want to be there, they will run. If he truly wants help, take him. If he doesn't, you are putting him at risk because he might run.

If police show up wanting to talk to you, do not allow them in your home without a warrant and do not talk to them, period. Contact a criminal defense attorney in your area immediately.

Penalties come from a criminal complaint--someone needs to report it to the police. If no witnesses they may not do anything. On a civil claim, you sue for damages--the assault and for medical treatment afterward. Talk to a member of the Ill. Trial Lawyers Assn--they give free consults.

I do not understand your question. A 17-year-old charged with felonies is charged as an adult. Is your son being investigated rather than charged? Your question is confusing. Please consult with an experienced defense attorney who can best advise you regarding the situation.
