Most likely not with the father in the picture. You can certainly try….but it may be more difficult depending on dads involvement or lack thereof.

File a motion for contempt and cite the order the parent is violating. You can find any available self help forms online on the Kentucky website. You can also visit the Jefferson county family court clerks office and request the same.

Q: I have custody of my 14 year old niece. How would I go about adopting her?

I’ve had my niece for about 4 years. Her father is incarcerated and her mother walked away from her. She was abused in different ways. I’d love to make her officially my daughter. Just don’t know how to do it.

Q: I have had permanent custody of my niece for 3 years from Virginia cps and we live in ky. What do I do to adopt her

She was put in foster care in Virginia and I received full permanent custody. She is 15 now. Both parents are in jail. Can I file for adoption without an attorney

You can file for adoption without an attorney but I would not recommend it bc adoptions are hyper technical. Hire a lawyer, file a petition for adoption and you will likely be permitted to adopt the child.

Highly unlikely that the court will remit what you propose. It is always much more difficult to get CPS out of your life than to get them into it.

Q: My sister has two kids, their father lives in MI. If they are taken, can I motion to have them instead of their dad?

My sisters kids could be taken by CPS for neglect, but the father has sexual abuse allegations against him in MI. I want to keep the children if something does arise.

You’ll need to go to all the court dates and make it known that you are seeking temporary custody. Not likely dad gets them with pending sex charges.
