I was accused of driving in a careless and imprudent manner involving an accident. The damage done to each car was very minor. Why was I issued a court date instead of just a fine? How should I plead? What should I expect in the court room? How much should the fine be? Thank you.

your state gives court dates. Look up the fine and possible points. If it's points,you may want to think of having a lawyer. You won't go to jail. Probably if you have some type of provisional license that may be at issue.

This is more of an estate planning and tort issue. But my understanding is that unless your husband was named as a party in the suit, he is not a beneficiary of the settlement.
The other driver ran a red light, claims my boyfriend did, my boyfriend doesn’t have collision coverage and the other party’s insurance (Geico) states they have no independent evidence to show who is at fault so they can’t do anything. The police report is also nonconclusive to who’s at fault.
