Q: I live in New Orleans, and it says that if I would runaway voluntarily at the age of 17 that I wouldn’t be in trouble?

What is the difference between voluntarily running away and running away?

Can I run away at 17 and go to a women’s shelter?

I don’t want to get emancipated because my parents would never set foot in court but if I told them that I were to flee they would let me go.

If you are being physically abused, call NOPD. Otherwise deputies can pick you up and put you in foster care for delinquency if you leave prior to age 18.

Do you have any paperwork or orders between the parents and signed by the Judge which addresses this? If so, what does it say? If it does not address this, then you should go to court and get it set if the other parent does not agree.

The Judgment granting the adoption typically orders the state's vital records office to reissue the birth certificate. The adopted parents must then mail the judgment along with an application to the state office for the new certificate to be issued.
