Q: is it possible for a defense attorney to work for free if during the trial process his/her client went bankrupt?

yes, but it is up to the lawyer.

you can't go to a restaurant and order an expensive dinner and then get a call that your funds are low, then telling the restaurant you want a free dinner.

why should a lawyer handle a matter pro bono unless it is their decision?

you want a local PI Trial lawyer from a good law school with at least 10 years of winning trial experience.

however, whether a lawyer will take the case is another question. Some of my friends will not take a case worth less than $1Million. It is more costly than ever before to handle a PI...

sounds like you are conspiring with him to break the law and that could be a Felony.

i wouldn't be surprised if the ins co would refuse to pay a claim for damages when they learn that.

you are aiding and abetting your dad and I advise you not to do so.

let's consider the practical question.........will you be able to collect.

assuming you get a verdict, will you be able to collect?

with a criminal case, the DA will do the dirty work.

with the facts you presented many lawyers would only take this on an hourly...not a contingency.

Totally legal.

if s/he resigns for no reason, s/he will not have a lien on the case.

you can contact another lawyer who can take over....so really no damages.

8 months is not long.

a lawyer must file a PI case within 2 years and then it will take up to 5 years for...

s/he has all the info to address this issue intelligently.

your recourse is for your lawyer to file an Appeal.

if your lawyer refuses to do so, it is probably b/c s/he d/n believe there are sufficient grounds to win.

make an appt with a local criminal lawyer to determine their position based on all the facts you provide.
