the St/L for a misdemeanor is 1 yr. and a DV is a wobbler and can be filed as a misd or felony.
however, after that, i would guess there would be very little chance of a filing

1) Generally, any visible or identifiable injury such as a slash on the face is felony, not misdemeanor. 2) You cannot dismiss anything, only a district attorney can. 3) She needs good attorney ASAP. Have her call me or any local attorney who has experience in such cases.
My friends case is still open and he is very concerned and doesn't know what is going on. The stand in lawyer didn't inform him of his right to a speedy trial or anything and his lawyer is not doing anything about it.

often the best thing that a lawyer can do is "age" a case.
i assume it is a felony and not a misdemeanor?
he will get credit for the time he served in any sentence.
he can ask for the supervising public defender and complain about his lawyer's lack of attention.
