Yes, it is against the law in California to file a false police report. Under California Penal Code section 148.5, it is a misdemeanor to make a false report of a crime to a peace officer, and the offense carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Yes your manager may show your text to another employee. There is nothing confidential about scheduling unless the reason for the scheduling request is confidential medical information, such as an illness or symptoms you are experiencing, or an injury you are suffering from.

You could contact the mother in law and request that she stop calling your husband's business partner. If that does not work, you could hire an attorney to send a cease and desist letter. It sounds like there could be grounds for a defamation lawsuit based on slander.

You should tender the matter to your insurance company. They can likely appoint an attorney to represent you. You do nothing except notify your insurance company, or your employer's insurance company. You do not have a right to "shut down" somebody else's allegations. That is the purpose of a trial.
