Q: Can I get a vehicle back if the loan isn't being paid?

A couple years ago I got a divorce and listed a truck as property for my ex husband. He was making the payments and the truck was always "his". Now he's not making the payments. My name is the only one on the truck and the loan. Legally it's the banks truck until it's paid... View More

No, it's not the bank's car. Based on your description, the title made it your car, and the divorce decree made it your ex-husband's car.

In most cases, the decree provides that the person who receives the property is responsible to pay the debt. If he doesn't do so,...

Q: What do I do if my landlord will not contact me back about a burst pipe in home? Am I responsible?

I live in Texas and I am currently back home in another state taking care of some things. I get notified by a prior renter of the house that the landlord had contacted her and told her that a pipe burst in the house and caused some flooding. I got ahold of the landlord and he said that it was due... View More

Check your lease, but it's probably not your responsibility to pay for the repairs. Presumably the pipe burst due to the freeze. You will probably be responsible for any damage to your belongings and the landlord will need to pay the the repairs to the property.

Q: I can’t find out how old my mobile home is and it was manufactured by y’all and sold from clayton mobile homes I’ve had
Teri A. Walter
Teri A. Walter
answered on Feb 22, 2021

This doesn't appear to be a legal question.

Mobile homes have serial numbers, and contacting the manufacturer with the serial number, or contacting the seller, should be able to resolve the question of the year the home was manufactured.

I suggest you take all of your property and especially all of your identification. You probably have a drivers license, birth certificate and social security card, but take it all and whatever else you have. It's also a good idea to start a list of these kinds of documents, as well as... View More

You have two choices: 1) give the dog back, or 2) don't give the dog back. If you don't, it is unlikely you'll be sued for the dog, because the cost of filing the suit almost certainly exceeds the value of the dog. In the event that there is a suit, the previous owner will have... View More

You have two problems.

The first is to make sure you obtain title to the house, and without reviewing your documents it's impossible to know what, if anything, needs to be done for that. (Then, if you want to transfer the property to your children, that's a separate process,...

If the taxes are paid, the state won't be selling it out from under anyone. However, just paying the taxes won't get you ownership of the property.

Q: How to adopt a dog?

My boyfriend has had his dog for 6 or 7 years and got her through humane society but under his friends name. He no longer has contact with that friend and doesn’t have any papers for the dog. He wants to get papers for her.

Unless the dog is a purebred, there aren't actually any "papers," and probably nothing showing ownership.

If he takes the dog to a vet, he can get it chipped, and if he registers his name and contact information to the chip, that's evidence of ownership, and he can get...

Q: What documents do I need in order to move out at 18?Can my mom call the cops on me for moving out at the age of 18?

I want to move out whenever I turn 18 because my mom doesn’t believe in what I want to be or do, she’s always saying negative comments to me and my siblings, so I think the best is moving out and continue studying.

You don't need any documents to move out at 18. At that point, you're legally an adult, so no, she can't call the cops on you. Been there, done that myself. Good luck!

Sorry, no matter how old you are, your parents get to make the rules about what they will allow in their house. If they don't want the puppy, I suggest you arrange another place to stay. No, they shouldn't give away your property, but if you're living at their house, you're... View More

Sorry, I can't follow exactly what is happening or what you want to do about it. This doesn't sound like a maintenance issue. Currently, you'll need to be given 30 days notice before an eviction can be filed for non payment of rent. There is rent assistance available in Texas, and... View More

If the house is homestead, the lien won't attach.
