I got pulled over for expired tags. when they asked to search me I told them I had a knife on me. The cop said he ain't going to ticket me for why he stopped me but arrested me for misdemeanor weapon concealment charge. Was that legal?

No, the heirs are not liable. Only the estate is liable.
